Hand Lettered Travel Thoughts
Friday, June 2, 2017
It's already been a month since I traveled because I am low-key broke these days so I took a short break. Haha! And lately, I've been craving for wandering around to the places I've never been to especially the places I've read on some local travel blogs. It was really a perfect timing when I stumbled upon Geckos Adventures' blog post of some foreign words that describe travel other than wanderlust. I am a logophile (lover of words) and I love traveling so, I guess this is a great way for my daily hand lettering drills and a motivation to save moolah so I can go to new places. Here are some of my favorites:
Swedish. (n.) the restless race of the traveler's heart before the journey begins, when anxiety and anticipation are tangled together; a "travel fever" that can manifest as an illness.
German (n.) a crave for travel; being homesick for a place you've never been.
Latin / French. (n.) lit. "drift". a spontaneous journey where the traveler leaves their life behind for a time to let the spirit of the landscape and architecture attract and move them.
Turkish. (n.) a sea wind; the summer breeze that blows from the ocean.
Japanese. (n.) an awareness of the universe that triggers emotional responses too deep and mysterious for words.
Welsh. (n.) a homesickness for a place you can never return to, a place which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past.
Latin. (n.) an unpredictable instance, a wandering journey; a whimsical, wild or unusual idea, desire, or action.
